Upstream Fiscal Analyst / Petroleum Economist

Job Description

GlobalData’s upstream fiscal analysis team helps our clients around the globe to assess investment opportunities in the exploration and production sector. In one of our analyst-level roles you will be responsible for building and maintaining our library of discounted cash flow models and country reports to ensure that clients have the most up to date and accurate information to guide their decision-making. Keeping abreast of tax and policy changes worldwide, you will also author regular topical insight pieces and provide analysis directly to clients. Working as part of our agile and dynamic team, you will quickly gain understanding of the oil and gas sector across a wide variety of geographies, honing your modelling and analysis skills.

The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years of experience working in a similar role, with a background in economics, finance, politics or a related discipline, and a keen interest in energy policy.

Key Responsibilities:

· Research and track policy developments affecting the fiscal and regulatory terms governing the upstream oil and gas sector

· Prepare and maintain detailed country-level fiscal and regulatory reports

· Build and maintain library of fiscal models

· Author topical insight pieces relating to the upstream fiscal and regulatory environment

· Participate in ad-hoc consulting engagements and projects as required by the business

Skills & Experience Required:

· 1-3 years of experience in the oil and gas sector

· Degree in economics, finance, politics or a related discipline

· Experience building discounted cash flow models

· Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel

· Previous exposure to and an understanding of upstream regulatory and fiscal systems

· Excellent writing skills, with the ability to express complex ideas in a concise manner

· Attention to detail and commitment to quality

· Effective oral communication skills to support client interactions


· Existing research contacts within the oil and gas sector

· Relevant language skills, particularly French, Spanish, Portuguese or Russian
